In 2016, A.L.L. Roofing Materials implemented Epicor BisTrack—a complete enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that offers all the functionality needed to process transactions for LBM dealers and distributors. It also simplifies dispatch, installed sales, and contract billing—plus leverages data to accelerate sales and optimize profitability.

Before that point, the company had an antiquated system. “Everything was autonomous,” Michelle Cassady, A.L.L. Roofing Materials’ general manager said.

If anyone had to do a special product order, the purchase would be separate from the customer’s sales order. This meant that an employee had to manually write in information and make sure that everyone in the office was in the know. “It was very clumsy,” Cassady continued. “It wasn’t conducive to growth at all or keeping up with the competition.” The slow speed of their customer service— as well as the high number of incorrect markups—put them at a disadvantage in the industry.

BisTrack software has transformed the way that A.L.L. Roofing Materials manages their cycle counts. Since they stock everything from tiny nails to large rolls of roofing membranes, it’s difficult to keep track of all their inventory. “Someone would call and ask if we had something in stock,” said Cassady. “We would have to put them on hold, get our vests on, go out in the yard, look around, and then come back and call them.”

While moving to a new inventory system can be difficult, Epicor made the transition easy for A.L.L. Roofing Materials’ employees. Now, team members can simply look at their computers and have an answer for the customer within seconds.

Thanks to the electronic document imaging and 24/7 access to their catalog, they don’t need to go rifling through papers. “Our bottom line is only based on what the system has and what is spit out on paper each month,” Cassady added. “If bundles and rolls of roofing material aren’t getting counted correctly, that’s a loss of thousands of dollars.”

Making ordering easy

At the most basic level, Epicor BisTrack software allows A.L.L. Roofing Materials to track all their orders with ease. Employees are now able to see special orders and stock orders immediately. They have access to everything that could potentially be on a truck and rearrange inventory in real time.

“It’s all right there at my fingertips,” said Nick Posey, purchasing manager at A.L.L. “I don’t have to hunt somebody down. I don’t have to wait at anyone’s desk.” Now, Nick doesn’t need to worry about time-sensitive orders. He’s already scheduled the truck, and it’s easy to make quick revisions if need be. “BisTrack software helps me do all of that. The system has made the whole team more connected,” he concluded.
